Monks alter their Body Temperature by 17 degrees

Buddhism over the years has transformed into many different schools but the principle of every one of these schools is to work with the mind, to bring about a transformation of the mind. In Tibetan Buddhism there are four main lineages; Kagyu, Nyingma, Sakya and Gelug. All of these lineages have sub categories of schools that different monks have written themselves as a guide for others, showing the way to enlightenment.

Sakya carries with it the practice of Vajrayāna. Monks have tightly guarded Vajrayāna as some of its practices can potentially be dangerous to ones body when used incorrectly but over the course of the 10 years, monks are now beginning to share with us some of the practices. They offer the outside world this because they see that people need it more than ever. Vajrayāna and in particular Inner Fire is considered to be the quickest route to enlightenment. The practice uses desire, which is considered to be the wrong approach in all other practices of Buddhism.

Scientists have already been on the search to try and uncover the physiological changes with monks who are practicing this. They use bio-testing equipment, by placing sensitive senses on the body, they can test for various changes in the body. They discovered that monks when practicing Inner Fire (Tummo), they could alter their body temperature by up to 17 degrees, allowing them to heat up cotton sheets that were dipped into near freezing water and eventually having steam rise from the sheets.

The benefits of bringing this practice into your life are numerous. The bodies’ immune system performs at the optimum level and the mind is calmer. If you are interested in learning further the practice of Inner Fire, a book called “The Bliss of Inner Fire” by Lama Zopa Rinpoche offers a complete guide.

Increasing the body temperature manually can also be achieved by using a breathing method. Wim Hof has been setting world records by doing this exact same thing. In one particular study, Wim had bacteria put into his body and by using this technique; he was able to demonstrate that his body was able to clear the bacteria. When the immune system is functioning, as it should, the body completely looks after itself and stays in a perfect balance.
